“my puppy thinks the sun shelf was exclusively built for him (it was)”
Hudson had only just come in from playing, and he was still panting when he planted himself at the sliding glass door. The Golden Retriever puppy had a tennis ball and a chew toy at his feet and the whole living room to himself, but his eyes were locked on one spot outside: the shallow sun shelf at the edge of the pool.
His mom tried reason first. “You were just out there playing,” she reminded him, and “That's why you're all out of breath.” Hudson kept his nose to the glass, mouth open in a grin, like a dog who had already decided. “Buddy you were just outside,” she tried once more. He did not budge.
So the door slid open, and Hudson trotted straight across the patio and waded in until the water reached his chest. It was, as @novathegoldengal put it, “just a quick dip,” in what she called “his emotional support sun shelf.”
And then came the part every puppy owner will recognize. “1 minute later...” Hudson was back on the mat outside that same glass door, “sitting like a good boy” and waiting to be let in. All that pleading, and one minute in his favorite spot was apparently exactly enough.
