The biggest dog in the house turned out to have the softest touch.
A tiny golden puppy came home wrapped in a lilac blanket, and the family's grown golden retriever was about to meet her new baby brother. Her mom stood just inside the front door holding the bundle against her chest while her dad let the big golden in through the back, and for a few seconds she trotted through the house with no idea anything had changed.
Anyone who has brought a second dog home knows the first meeting is the part you quietly worry about. This one went better than anyone could have hoped, once her nose caught up with the rest of her. Her tail got going before she even reached the blanket, and when she rose onto her back legs to bring her face level with his, she did it slowly, like she already knew this one was breakable. Goldens are not famous for doing anything by halves, which makes it extra sweet to watch one put that much care into a single sniff.
The family cat was far less bothered than you might expect and walked straight up to the newcomer on the couch for a sniff of its own, though one viewer still imagined what it was really thinking: "this is getting out of hand. Now there are two of them." Another gave the golden her own lines: "You guys got me a puppy!?! OMAGOD! OMAGOD! OMAGOD!"
The last shot says the rest: the big golden stretched out on the wood floor, her sleepy little brother curled into her side. "There is truly nothing quite like the gentle, tender heart of a Golden welcoming a new little pack member into the home," wrote the family behind @kiriane_golden_retrievers. Judging by that big, contented face, the golden agrees, and the cat seems willing to go along with it.
