She was dumped on the streets and waited years to be chosen, and now her favorite place in the world is her dad's arms.
Milkshake Marie, a deaf pit bull, treats her dad like home base. Whenever he sits down, she climbs into his lap, and when he picks her up, she lays her head on his shoulder and closes her eyes. It's been three years since the family behind @make.life.happen adopted her, and she still acts like every hug might be the best one yet.
She didn't start out this trusting. Milkshake had been dumped on the streets and lived as a stray, and she waited years before anyone chose her. Her family shared that she had "seen the worst in people" and that the beginning was hard. "If someone told you rescue is always easy, they probably didn’t tell you the truth," they wrote.
Her family is clear about what really stood in her way. "Being deaf, never held her back, People did," they wrote. In this house she found people who wanted her exactly as she is, and she has grown into "the most wonderful sister" to Poundcake, the family's other pup.
Her days have settled into a very good routine. She rides along in the back seat on car trips, naps with her dad on the porch swing, and flops onto her back on the rug so he can rub her chest, which earns him a sleepy, lopsided grin. Her family wants new followers to "see how capable and amazing she is," and she makes that easy without hearing a single word.
"Sometimes I can’t believe she has been in our home for three years, but they have been the best three years," her family wrote. For a dog who spent so long waiting, she has a lot of cuddling to catch up on, and she is clearly in no hurry to stop.
