Labs Til and Diesel Need a Boost Into the Car After a Decade of Walks

Ten years of walks, then the first boost into the back seat.

Ten years of neighborhood loops, and this is the first time both Labs need a boost into the back seat.

@happyhoundspetservices_ calls Til and Diesel her OG kids — the pair she has been walking for almost a decade. Most days they are happy with the usual routes. This time she mixed it up with a drive to the beach and the park, the kind of outing that still ends in backyard splash time.

The Back-Seat Boost Nobody Scheduled

When it was time to load up, both pups needed a leg up into the car. First time ever. The walker froze for a second, realizing the energetic youngsters she met years ago are seniors now — even if Diesel still refuses to grow a single grey whisker.

She is not mourning the milestone. She is banking more beach days, more neighborhood walks, and plenty of post-walk paddling-pool chaos while the calendar keeps score quietly.

Think a dog “just suddenly gets old”? Everyday loading and jumping changes are often the early tell.

Small Mobility Shifts Are Data, Not Drama

In a 2023 PLOS One study validating GenPup-M, an owner-reported mobility questionnaire, researchers showed that everyday caregiver observations can detect early mobility changes in dogs — the subtle stuff you notice on walks and into the car, not only big later collapses.

Til and Diesel still get the beach, the park, and the pool. The boost into the seat is simply the newest line in a long love story of showing up for the same two Labs, week after week.

The walks will keep coming. The splash sessions too. And when the tailgate opens, there will be hands ready for the lift.
