The balancing was flawless. The handoff was not, and one very good boy had a long way to go to fix it.
Ranger the Golden Retriever sat on a leafy paved path with a tiny orange pumpkin perched on his head, perfectly still, eyes rolled up toward his mom as if he knew exactly how good this looked. "Am doing so gud," she typed for him. Then came the handoff. Ranger dipped his head to drop the pumpkin into her open palm, it slipped right past her fingers, and off it went, rolling down the path.
His mom's ruling was swift. "He failed at his one job but it's okay because he redeemed himself," she wrote, and she summed up the whole saga on @thegoldenboyranger in six words: "Fired then rehired in one video."
Ranger didn't sulk for a second. "It ok I go get it," his mom wrote, and he chased that runaway pumpkin a long, long way. Bringing it back turned out to be the real test, since a tiny round gourd and a soft retriever mouth are not a natural match. "This thing is slippery," she added on his behalf, but he got it there and set it down at her feet like nothing had ever happened, with one last line from his mom on his behalf: "Here go!"
Followers, for the record, did not agree with the firing. "Redeemed himself??? Ma'am, YOU'RE the one that didn't catch it properly. ๐ค" one wrote. Another had a simple sentence in mind for the real culprit: "Say sorry and give him treats rn ๐ค." Fired or not, Ranger did his job twice, once with a pumpkin on his head and once with it in his mouth, carried all the way back to the person who dropped it.
