Black Lab Decides a Kitten’s Camping Chair Is Strictly for Two-Player Wrestling

Black Lab Decides a Kitten’s Camping Chair Is Strictly for Two-Player Wrestling

A lawn seat by the pond turns into a full-contact scramble when two unlikely buddies refuse to yield.

The folding chair beside the pond was pitched for a peaceful afternoon, but the black puppy had zero interest in scenic quiet. Wedging one heavy front shoulder into the canvas, she locked eyes with the kitten inside and immediately declared it wrestling season.

Dewey the kitten was already sprawled belly-up on the brown fabric, paws cocked like a pocket-sized prizefighter waiting for the opening bell. Instead of backing off to give the cat room, Raven the Labrador Retriever leaned all the way in, turning six square inches of camp furniture into a slow-motion, high-stakes tangle of paws and puppy teeth.

The moment, shared on Instagram by @adventuresofmurphyandraven and highlighted by DogTime, captures a familiar reality for multi-pet homes: personal space is entirely theoretical. Dewey swats frantically from his back, landing two-pawed taps directly onto Raven's muzzle while the puppy bobs, weaves, and uses her nose like a velvet snowplow. Every time the chair creaks under Raven's weight, the puppy adjusts just enough to stay in bounds without tipping the whole setup into the dirt.

Self-handicapping and the art of gentle chaos

Beneath the slapstick humor is a classic display of canine self-handicapping. When young dogs engage smaller animals, they deliberately scale back their physical strength, soften their bite pressure, and place themselves in awkward, vulnerable postures—like stuffing a bulky head into a tight fabric corner—to keep the game fun and fair. For Raven, pressing close without using her full body weight allows Dewey to feel confident enough to trade jabs, turning an everyday outdoor chair into the ultimate arena for interspecies friendship.
