18-Year-Old Blind Dachshund Leaps Into Volunteer's Arms At Shelter

She just needed someone to hold onto.
Shelter volunteer Elaine Seamans knelt down to visit a senior Dachshund at the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center. The little dog leaped straight into her arms.
Muneca was 18 years old and completely blind when she arrived at the Los Angeles County shelter. Disoriented by the unfamiliar sounds and cement kennels, she pressed her chest against Seamans and buried her gray muzzle into the volunteer's shoulder, refusing to let go.
A photographer captures the shelter embrace
Photographer John Hwang happened to be walking through the facility and saw the two holding each other. He snapped a photo of Muneca clinging to Seamans and shared it online, hoping someone might notice the fragile senior pup. The image quickly circulated among animal lovers across the country.
Frosted Faces Foundation steps in to help
The photograph caught the attention of the Frosted Faces Foundation, a nonprofit in Ramona, California, dedicated to rescuing senior animals in jeopardy. As reported by iHeartDogs, the rescue pulled Muneca from the shelter right away and brought her to a veterinarian for a full checkup before moving her into foster care. Despite her advanced age and blindness, the exam confirmed she was remarkably healthy.
A quiet retirement in San Diego
Applications poured in from families wanting to open their doors to the senior Dachshund. The foundation selected Amy Gann, who drove to San Diego to meet Muneca in person. The connection was instant, and Gann officially completed the adoption to give her a peaceful forever home filled with beach outings, warm baths, and cozy beds.
