Missing for Three Years, Jorge Looked up from a City Sidewalk and Heard a Voice He Never Forgot

Stepping off the bus onto Rustaveli Avenue, 62-year-old Giorgi Bereziani spotted a familiar black-and-white shape resting quietly under a tree. His chest tightened as he moved closer, took a cautious breath, and called out the name he had not spoken aloud on a street corner in three years.

Jorge’s ears twitched at the first syllable. The sleeping dog lifted his head, blinked through the daylight, and froze as the pitch registered. Then came a frantic, high-pitched whimper of sheer disbelief—Jorge scrambled to his feet, threw his paws against Giorgi’s chest, and buried his muzzle into his owner's jacket as years of wandering dissolved in seconds.

A three-year search across Tbilisi

When Jorge went missing from his neighborhood in Tbilisi, Georgia, in 2015, Giorgi refused to give up. He spent the next three years combing through city streets, pasting missing flyers on lampposts, and following up on sightings across the capital. Even as months stretched into years, he held onto the quiet conviction that his companion was still out there somewhere.

A yellow tag and a call from the opera house

The breakthrough came when workers at the Tbilisi Opera and Ballet Theatre noticed a black-and-white dog wandering nearby and remembered Giorgi's long-standing search notices. Municipal animal control had picked up the stray during his time on the streets, marking him with a yellow ear tag to show he had been vaccinated and neutered before releasing him back into the city.

When the theater staff phoned with the description, Giorgi rushed straight to the transit stop. As documented by iHeartDogs, the moment Giorgi whispered, “Jorge, is that you?” the dog's explosive reaction left no question that their bond had remained completely untouched by time.

Back where he belongs

Watching Jorge lean his entire weight into Giorgi’s embrace captures how deep canine memory runs. A dog’s sense of safety is tied to the people who cherish them, and no amount of time living rough on the pavement could erase the voice that meant home.

After three long years apart, Giorgi and his loyal mixed-breed companion headed back home together, giving hope to everyone holding out for their own miraculous reunion and celebrating the power of heartwarming loyalty that never fades.
