The laundry basket never stood a chance.
Pilot's mom says the Golden Retriever has never cared much for sensible toys. Hand him a towel, though, and he is suddenly very busy.
Whether it is a bath towel, a dish rag, or a beach towel left out by the pool, Pilot treats every piece of terrycloth like prized treasure. As his family documents on @adventures.of.pilot, the pup does not discriminate when it comes to fabric.
Pilot’s favorite daily project is sneaking into the laundry room to pull towels out one by one. From there, he struts through the hallway with fabric trailing from his mouth, hauls his prizes up the stairs, and scatters them across the living room rug.
Whenever he spots someone reaching for a camera, he scoops up his towel and takes off with a mischievous sprint. When his mom tries to reclaim one, Pilot drops his weight and locks in for a determined game of tug-of-war.
While the habit looks adorable on video, it came with a genuine scare when Pilot was younger. As reported by DogTime, the obsession started when he was a tiny puppy, but around his first birthday, he swallowed an entire kitchen towel and needed emergency surgery to remove it from his intestines.
Thankfully, Pilot recovered smoothly, and his family now makes sure towels are strictly for toting around rather than snacking. Vets consistently warn dog owners that swallowing fabric can cause severe gastrointestinal blockages, making active supervision essential whenever a fabric-loving pup gets playful.
These days, Pilot seems to understand that towels work best as comfort blankets and walking accessories. Other Golden Retriever parents quickly chimed in with their own stories of canine laundry thieves, proving that quirky household humor is practically a breed standard.
