Young Indie Dog Left Behind in Bangalore After Family Moves Abroad Still Yearns for Love

At 1.5 years old, Leo was left on his own in Bengaluru, but his gentle spirit hasn't faded.

Leo pressed his head against his caregiver's arm, exhaling a quiet sigh as her fingers scratched gently behind his ears. His amber eyes looked up with quiet devotion, offering an affectionate lean that said everything.

Just weeks earlier, the young Indie dog had a familiar front door, a daily routine, and people he trusted completely. But when his family packed their belongings to move to another country, they chose not to bring him along—leaving the 1.5-year-old pup behind in Bangalore to face an uncertain world on his own.

An affectionate soul despite a devastating goodbye

Losing a home is bewildering for any pet, but native Indian dogs—often affectionately called Indies—are known for forming deeply devoted, single-minded bonds with their households. When those bonds abruptly sever due to relocation, the psychological shock can leave many animals withdrawn or fearful.

Yet as rescue advocate @ritu_jha documented on Instagram, Leo refused to let abandonment harden his heart. In video shared from his foster care, the cream-colored mixed breed eagerly nudged his caregiver for chin scratches, happily accepted treats, and rested his body against her with total vulnerability.

His caregiver described him as gentle, loving, and remarkably resilient. Far from shrinking away from human touch, Leo actively leans into comfort, showing that his desire to connect and be loved remains entirely intact.

Seeking a calm home and a fresh start

Now under dedicated foster care in Bangalore, Leo is medically prepared for his next chapter: he is neutered, dewormed, and up to date on all vaccinations. His caregivers have taken time to understand his personality, noting that while he greets life with a sweet demeanor, he feels especially relaxed and confident around female humans and female dogs.

Because of his easygoing nature, rescuers believe Leo would thrive either as a cherished solo dog or in a household paired with a friendly female canine companion. For families willing to offer patience as he adjusts, an Indie rescue dog often rewards that kindness with a lifetime of loyalty.

As DogTime reported, local animal advocates hope Leo's plea will soon reach an adoption family who views a pet not as a temporary companion to leave behind during life transitions, but as family for good.
