RescueMeATL drove two hours for one overlooked dog in Tiger, Georgia. The staff member who met them at the door was already in tears.
The volunteers from @rescueme_atl had driven two hours into rural Georgia before they ever saw Geek. On the clip, the text says they came to meet a dog who had been waiting three years. When they opened the shelter door, one of them wrote in the caption, their jaws dropped.
Geek is a small black-and-tan mix, about three years and eight months old and only 33 pounds, living at Rabun Paws 4 Life / Rabun County Animal Control in Tiger. The on-screen count puts her stay at 1,150 days. Staff had hoped she would leave as a puppy. She never did.
In the caption, a shelter worker started crying and said, "We've tried so so hard. We don't know what else to do." The RescueMeATL team hugged her and wrote that the staff had done nothing wrong — Geek was "just another good dog in a rural shelter that the world doesn't see." They promised to keep making noise until she found a home.
She was too unsure to walk out on her own at first, so they carried her into the yard. Outside, her whole body loosened. She licked faces, dug into peanut butter from a squeeze pouch, and later tried on a strawberry costume for a photo that might finally get her noticed. When the lights and camera got to be too much, they stopped early and let her rest.
She still goes back to the same kennel at the end of a visit like this. RescueMeATL wrote that they only got one good photo, and they are hoping it is enough. Geek is dog-friendly and kid-friendly per their post, and anyone interested can inquire through Rabun Paws 4 Life in Tiger, Georgia.
