Service Lab Gus Gets His Own PhD Candidacy Bandana

Almost a decade of supervising class. Then they gave him merch.
Cool. Calm. Professional service Lab energy. Also: that tail is absolutely betraying him.
Almost a Decade of Supervising Class
When @dr.gusgus’s human crossed into PhD candidacy, the graduate school and mentor Dr. Tori Baxter did not stop at a white coat for mom. They surprised Gus with his own personalized candidacy bandana.
He tried to play it cool. The little tail wags gave him away anyway. In his words, he loves that lady — excellent human, very good taste in puppers — and after almost a decade of supervising his mama’s education, being included felt awfully sweet.
I didn’t have the heart to tell them she’s the only one who needed a white coat, though. I’ve always had one.
Think the bandana was just cute ceremony merch? The science on celebration week says Gus was reading the room.
Happy Humans Make Better Teammates
In a 2024 Max Planck Institute study published in Animal Cognition, dogs trained better with happy owners than with sad or neutral ones — dogs perceive real human emotion in the moment and change how they work with us. The tail was not random. It was live data.
So yes: personalized bandana, white-coat stage, one cream Lab who already knew the vibe before anyone handed him the merch.
He still claims he played it cool. The footage respectfully disagrees.
Fans clocked the PhDog energy immediately.
