Little Boy Running for His Life From Puppy’s Zoomies Seeks Refuge With Older Dog

Little Boy Running for His Life From Puppy’s Zoomies Seeks Refuge With Older Dog

Frankie knows 5-year-old Beau is for cuddling, but 5-month-old Bruce is pure high-speed chaos.

Dressed in his red pajamas, little Frankie sprinted down the hallway with wide eyes as a golden blur chased right on his heels. Behind him, five-month-old Bruce came barreling around the corner with full-throttle puppy zoomies.

Scrambling into the living room, Frankie didn't look back until he could launch himself onto the white sofa, ducking safely behind his family's five-year-old dog, Beau. While Bruce tore chaotic laps across the rug and around the coffee table, Beau sat completely unbothered like a seasoned older brother holding down the safe zone.

The Derise family, who documents life with their beloved pups on @beaunosebones, shared the hilarious contrast to show what happens when two dogs share a roof with completely opposite energy levels. Frankie has spent his early childhood wrapped up in Beau's gentle shadow. For years, the pair have been inseparable, sharing quiet mornings on the floor and serene moments side-by-side by the lake.

When the family brought home Bruce, however, the house gained a whole new velocity. Five-month-old Bruce is at that classic stage where bursts of energy take over without warning. While Beau represents the calm, patient side of the breed, Bruce is still figuring out how to navigate the world at anything less than top speed.

The resulting reel captured that difference perfectly, opening with sweet, tender clips of Frankie embracing Beau before pivoting straight into the mad dash for the couch.

The clip struck an immediate chord with dog lovers, who fell in love with Frankie's survival instincts and Beau's steady guardianship:

"Frankie’s like, help me, Beau Beau!"
"Save me Beau!!"
"Awwww Beau was like… don't worry bro, I’ll protect you!"
"That’s a belly-laugh kind of video. All good memories being made!"

The family was quick to reassure viewers that the boys are thick as thieves during normal play hours. "All jokes aside, Frankie plays with Bruce all the time," they shared, "but he knows when he has the zoomies to get out of the way."

That situational awareness is actually a big milestone for any child growing up with young dogs. Canine zoomies—technically known as frenetic random activity periods—are a harmless way for puppies to release pent-up excitement, but their lack of braking power can easily topple small toddlers. By recognizing Bruce's wild-eyed cues early, Frankie has figured out the golden rule of multi-dog households: run to the older brother, hit the couch, and enjoy the show.
