Great Pyrenees Puppy Raised With 3 Cats Masters the Art of the Feline Loaf

Bao Bao may weigh 80 pounds, but living with a trio of cats convinced her she's just another kitten.

Standing in the kitchen of her Durham home, Carrie Nguyen looked down at the hardwood floor and had to do a double take.

Resting right in front of the cabinets was Bao Bao, an 80-pound Great Pyrenees puppy, folding all four massive paws neatly underneath her chest until only her fluffy torso and badger-marked head remained in view.

At nine months old, the gentle giant had already outgrown every piece of furniture in the house. But sharing living quarters with three feline companions in North Carolina meant that Bao Bao never quite got the memo that she was an oversized livestock guardian dog. Instead of sprawling out across the entire entryway like most Pyrs do to stay cool, she spent her days quietly studying her feline roommates and absorbing their habits down to the smallest detail.

When Nguyen shared a video documenting the routines Bao has picked up from living alongside three cats, the pup's feline identity crisis was unmistakable:

The clip breaks down Bao’s feline repertoire point by point. First comes “she rub,” where the fluffy giant affectionately presses her side against a human leg just like an indoor cat greeting someone after work. Then comes “she ‘washes’ her face”—a routine where Bao rolls onto her back on the sofa, waving giant paws over her muzzle in an enthusiastic imitation of self-grooming.

The crown jewel, however, remains what Nguyen affectionately coined a "freshly baked Pyrenees": Bao dropping into a flawless, tucked-in cat loaf. Whether waiting patiently by the back door, hanging out in the kitchen while meals are being prepared, or relaxing in her exercise pen as if it were an oversized cardboard box, Bao tucks her paws inward and settles in with total serenity.

Her feline siblings are still getting accustomed to having an 80-pound apprentice shadowing their daily routines, but Bao remains completely unfazed. Whenever the family settles onto the couch alongside their long-haired cat, the pup gently wedges herself into the same quiet cuddle circle, content to nap side-by-side in feline harmony.

Dog lovers quickly chimed in on the gentle giant's hilarious adaptation:

"Ma’am that’s just a cat on different hardware."
"I’ve never seen a loaf wag its tail before!"
"I think pyrs might be part cat—mine does the same things as yours, minus the loaf."

While Great Pyrenees were historically bred to patrol mountain pastures and independently guard livestock, growing up with three cats offers its own domestic perks. For Bao Bao, being an 80-pound lap cat is simply the most comfortable way to navigate life—bringing plenty of humor and unexpected cozy charm to the whole family.
