Golden Retriever Treats Bedtime Like Recess as Whole Family Tries to Sleep

Moose had zero interest in turning off the lights when his siblings were already tucked in.

The kids were tucked under their blankets, the lights were dimming, and everyone was supposed to be settling in for sleep. Then Moose bounded into the bedroom with entirely different plans.

Instead of curling up at the foot of the bed, the exuberant golden pup treated the room like an open playground, leaping between mattresses and flashing a wide, open-mouthed grin. With his tail wagging at full speed, he made it abundantly clear that sleep was the absolute last item on his evening agenda.

The Fifth Child's Nighttime Routine

His mom, Lucy Kelly, captured the hilarious bedtime standoff and shared it to Instagram via @lucyjaykelly_, adding the on-screen text: “Me: okay it’s time to calm down, it’s bedtime. My Golden Retriever.” With four children already in the house, Kelly joked in the caption that Moose is "truly our 5th child"—and he certainly rivaled every one of them in bedtime procrastination.

Giggles and the Evening Witching Hour

Rather than getting frustrated by the chaos, the kids dissolved into giggles as Moose bounced back and forth, turning what is usually a quiet wind-down ritual into a celebratory evening show. The clip quickly struck an affectionate chord with families who recognize that familiar evening burst of energy:

"Every kid deserves this bedtime routine."
"Go Moose go!!!"
"They all love it!"

Sudden evening rallies like Moose's are a familiar ritual for anyone raising young Golden Retrievers. Often dubbed the nighttime "witching hour" or post-dinner zoomies, dogs frequently register the entire household gathering in one room as peak social time rather than a cue to rest. When a pack of giggling kids is involved, that playful feedback loop only fuels more humor and bouncy enthusiasm.

For Moose, bedtime might never be a swift and quiet affair, but it ensures that every night ends surrounded by the people—and laughter—he loves most.
