Exhausted Golden Retriever Proves Big-Sister Duties Never Clock Out

A devoted Golden Retriever takes her big-sister babysitting duties very seriously.

Gamja lay motionless on the living room rug, her chin pressed flat against the floor and her dark eyes heavy with exhaustion.

Her human wondered aloud if the sweet pooch was simply slowing down with age. But Gamja was neither sick nor frail — she had just put in an uninterrupted double shift as the self-appointed guardian of her family's newest arrival.

When the family brought home their newborn infant, Gamja immediately promoted herself to head of nursery security. Throughout the day, the gentle Golden Retriever shadowed every single transition. When the baby rested on the living room sofa, Gamja sat upright like a loyal sentinel, placing her body along the edge to ensure her tiny brother could never roll off.

Her supervision only intensified during routine milestones. When mom gave the baby gentle tummy rubs, Gamja wedged her golden snout straight under her human's sleeve, delivering soft, thorough sniffs to inspect the procedure. Whenever the infant dozed off, Gamja curled up beside him, letting the baby rest against her plush, warm coat like a living cushion.

Even after twilight fell, Gamja refused to clock out. Dressed in cozy pink dog pajamas, she trotted into the master bedroom with a happy pant, walking straight over to inspect the mesh bedside bassinet. Only after receiving affectionate head scratches from her owner did the tired pup finally concede defeat — collapsing face-down onto a yellow bed pillow beside the crib, completely fast asleep.

The clip struck an immediate chord with dog lovers, who fell in love with Gamja's devoted big-sister instincts:

"Being the 2nd mom to bald puppy is ruff 😴😴"
"The best big sister 💜"

Her owner hilariously noted that Gamja was "super busy taking care of the baby all day and night," adding that in the final clip, the exhausted pup "was out" cold.

Many expecting parents worry about how their dogs will handle a newborn, fearing their pets might feel pushed aside — what Gamja's owner described as the fear of pets becoming "cold rice" (찬밥). But rather than growing aloof, empathetic breeds like Goldens often blossom when included in the household's new rhythm. By letting dogs participate in quiet supervision, maintaining predictable routines, and offering gentle positive reinforcement, families can turn potential rivalry into an unbreakable, heartwarming bond.

For Gamja and her fluffy brother Chip, documented on @gamjamypotato, life alongside their tiny human has already become second nature.
