Border Collie Melts Into Post-Brush Face Massage With the Sweetest Contented Grumbles

A sweet Border Collie named Susu turned a routine teeth-cleaning session into pure bliss, melting into a gentle post-brushing face massage accompanied by the softest contented grumbles.

For many dogs, hygiene routines like tooth brushing are events to be endured with polite patience. But for Susu, a black-and-white Border Collie whose family documents her adventures on Instagram at @bordercollie_susu, dental care is merely the opening act for something far more luxurious: a dedicated post-brush spa treatment.

In a viral clip shared by her owner, Susu rests comfortably upside down on her dad's lap. Having just completed her brushing session, her pearly whites gleam beneath a slightly lifted lip as gentle hands frame her muzzle. Her dad slowly rubs and kneads the soft contours of her cheeks, jaw, and nose, while Susu lets her eyelids flutter shut in total surrender.

What stole viewers' hearts wasn't just Susu’s serene expression, but the soundtrack accompanying the rubs. Throughout the session, the pup emits steady, soft, low-frequency grumbles—a canine purr that signals complete, unhurried relaxation. Her dad affectionately captioned the moment with a tip for followers: "Headphones recommended for the quiet puppy grumbles."

While the video is undeniably heartwarming, incorporating gentle massage into regular grooming offers tangible wellness benefits. Working and herding breeds often hold subtle muscular tension around the temporomandibular joint and brow ridge from intense visual focus and alert tracking. Applying light, circular finger pressure along the zygomatic arch and the corners of the jaw helps trigger the parasympathetic nervous system, lowering heart rate and promoting deep calm.

Pairing an essential hygiene task with a soothing reward is also a masterclass in cooperative dog-care. Instead of viewing the toothbrush as an intrusion, dogs learn to associate oral hygiene with positive touch and focused bonding time. Pet parents looking to try this at home should keep movements slow and light, watching for relaxed body language such as softened eyes, gentle sighs, and limp paws.

When she isn't enjoying five-star facial treatments, Susu balances her pampering sessions with energetic hikes, creek crossings, and seaside romps, proving that even the most adventurous working dogs appreciate a little quiet self-care.
