Alaskan Malamute Duke Endures His Puppy Sister’s Chaos Until They Become Inseparable

A patient gentle giant learns that having an energetic little shadow isn’t so bad after all.

Dad held the tiny white Samoyed puffball level with Duke’s nose, and the giant Malamute offered a few hesitant, gentlemanly sniffs before backing away across the living room rug.

Watching his new puppy sister touch down on the floor, Duke seemed to realize immediately that his quiet bachelor life was officially over.

Little Odesa wasted zero time establishing herself as Duke’s uninvited shadow. The family chronicled the chaotic journey on @duke.the.malamute, documenting how an older, dignified dog had to navigate the hurricane that is a newborn puppy. Early on, Duke tried his best to meet her energy outdoors, dropping into an eager play bow and circling the yard with zoomies. He looked like an excited older brother thinking he had finally scored a playmate—until Odesa clarified the house rules.

To Odesa, Duke’s giant face, fluffy ears, and plush tail were not playmates—they were chew toys. Whenever Duke curled up on his bed for an afternoon snooze, Odesa trotted over to gnaw on his cheek, pull at his thick coat, and yip directly in his face. In one hilarious clip, Duke simply stares straight into the camera lens with a weary, resigned look that spoke volumes.

When Odesa grabbed Duke's tail while he lay in the grass, their human mom had to intervene, prompting Duke to shoot her a glance of sheer gratitude. Yet through every persistent pestering session, Duke lived up to his gentle-giant reputation.

Duke is a golden angel because he never bites back.

As the weeks rolled by and Odesa grew out of her sharp-toothed baby phase, the persistent mischief softened into something genuine. The pair began playing real games of tug-of-war, chasing each other around the patio, and sharing peaceful moments in the sun. Duke discovered that having a little sister around meant never having to take on the day alone.

Once she found her footing, Odesa rarely left Duke's side, leaning in for company at every chance.

The dynamic highlights why the Alaskan Malamute is celebrated for its deep pack loyalty and stoic patience. Senior arctic breeds often need time to set quiet boundaries with high-spirited newcomers, but Duke's instinct to guide rather than reprimand created an unbreakable bond. Now, wherever Duke goes, Odesa follows half a step behind—sleeping back-to-back on their pouf and proving that even the most chaotic dog siblings can discover a heartwarming lifelong rhythm.
